Accessible bathrooms · Runcorn
Walk-in showers, level access, and VAT taken off at the counter.
If you or someone you’re buying for is chronically sick or disabled, many of the products on this page can be supplied without VAT. We handle the declaration in store — it takes a minute, and there’s nothing to claim back afterwards.

Come and see it first
A bathroom that still works in ten years’ time
Most people come to us because getting in and out of the bath has become a worry — for themselves, or for a parent. You don’t need a hospital-looking bathroom to fix that. A level-access shower, a sensible floor and a rail in the right place will do it, and it’ll look like any other bathroom.
Come into the showroom on Ringway Road and have a look at a walk-in shower in the flesh. There’s free parking right outside and level access through the door, which rather helps. People come to us from Widnes, Warrington and Frodsham as well as Runcorn, usually because somebody told them to.

Fold-down seats, support handles and rails in a range of finishes, so they don’t have to look clinical.
Raised-height WCs
Comfort-height pans and easy-reach flush plates, which make far more difference than people expect.
Lever taps and thermostatic valves
Easier on stiff hands than a standard turn tap, and thermostatic controls where scalding is a concern.
VAT relief, explained plainly
How the zero rating actually works
There’s a lot of confusion about this, so here it is straight. You don’t claim anything back from anybody. The VAT simply isn’t charged in the first place.
You tell us
Let us know the items are for someone who is chronically sick or disabled, and that they’re for their own personal or domestic use.
You sign a short declaration
One form at the counter, which we’ll give you. It’s your own declaration — we don’t ask for medical evidence, and neither does HMRC.
The VAT comes off there and then
Qualifying items are zero-rated at the point of sale. You pay the price without the VAT and there’s nothing to chase afterwards.
Who qualifies
Being honest about what counts
HMRC’s definition of chronically sick or disabled covers a long-term physical or mental impairment that has a substantial effect on day-to-day life, a condition the medical profession treats as a chronic illness, or terminal illness. Being elderly or temporarily injured doesn’t qualify on its own.
It also applies to the qualifying items, not to a whole bathroom. A level-access shower tray may be zero-rated while the tiles around it aren’t. We’ll tell you honestly which parts of your quote qualify and which don’t, rather than letting you find out later.
If you’re not sure whether you qualify, come in and ask. We’ve been doing this a long time and we’d rather have the conversation than have you assume you don’t.
